“The Glorious Face of God”
She sat wide-eyed staring at the tiny bundle she was holding in her arms. She was holding the Son of God, and the very thought still took her breath away! She pulled back the blanket and counted each finger and all ten toes. He was absolutely perfect. Her heart could not contain the fullness of what was taking place. Ever since the angel had come to her, she had pondered each and every word. But this; this was more than she could take in! She was holding the Lamb of God that would take away man’s need to offer a sacrifice ever again. He would be that sacrifice. And with that thought tears began to stream down her face gently landing on the small face of her precious baby…the glorious Face of God.
Some 33 years later…she bowed on her knees and she looked up at God’s Son hanging on a rustic tree made into a cross. All of the years passed through her mind as she watched Him hanging there. She remembered His first fall and all the tears that followed. So many memories and it all happened so quickly. And now…there was nothing she could do to stop the pain and suffering He had to endure. She was startled as the guard began to take Him down from the cross. His body was limp without life. They brought Him to her and she cradled Him in her arms. It seemed like yesterday she had looked into His face and He was just a tiny baby, so perfect, and now He had been taken from her….and the tears began to stream down her face gently landing on the precious face of her Son….the glorious Face of God.
And the angels cried….
After three days, He came out of the tomb just as she knew He would….and her heart leapt for joy…because He was alive! And she knew….that first Christmas long ago in a Bethlehem stable was the beginning of many Christmases to come celebrating the greatest Gift of all…God’s precious Son….because He lives!
She closed her eyes…and the tears began to stream down her face…and she would always remember …..the glorious Face of God!
